How do I fix blown outlets?
I have one of those Kurig coffee makers – while trying to fix it I unplugged it from the outlet for the first time. When I plugged it back in it did not work. So I plugged it into another outlet, and it did not work. Then I plugged another previously working device into those outlets and turns out the coffee make did something to those 2 particular outlets – it shorted them or something. I checked the breakers, turned them off and back on and nothing – how do I fix? One outlet is GFI, one is not.
Is it possible that the problem was never a faulty coffee maker, but faulty wiring to those outlets?
The reason I ask that question is because neither circuit breaker was tripped(according to your information) so the appliance did NOT cause the fault other than possibly drawing enough current on the faulty outlets which were going to eventually fail anyway.
I would look at the connections to those outlets first.
There is a possibility that there are loose connections, or your house was wired with aluminum wiring and has not been fitted with the proper ‘pigtails’ to compensate for the different thermal and electrical characteristics.
If the latter applies, you should fit the correct ‘pigtails’ on every outlet in your house since that is supposed to be a potential fire hazard.
Although I know that coincidences DO happen occasionally, $H1T tends to happen much more often!
