Marble Cleaning: Seven Things You Must Do
Use of marble enhances the home or office décor. It is an investment which has high returns. Since marble is a natural stone, simple care and maintenance can make it looking beautiful.
Proper cleaning of marble is very simple. However, there are seven things you must do to take proper care of your marble tiles. Read as we give you the tips for proper maintenance of marble tiles.
Firstly, it is important to be aware that foods and drinks containing acids can easily etch, dull or stain the polished stone surface very easily even if it is sealed off. So, you must be careful while using them. However, you can use coaters under the glasses especially those substances like juices, wine and coffee.
Secondly, never put hot items on the surface of the marble stone. Always make use of mats or trivets under hot dishes and placements under ceramics, china, silver or any other object to prevent scratches.
Another important point is that you must dust mop interior floors occasionally by making use of a clean non-treated dry dust cloth. Area rugs or mats inside and outside the house entrance help to bring in less sand, grit and dirt inside the house. Make sure that the underside of rig or mat is a non slip surface. Dust, sand and debris cause damages to stone surfaces. However, never use worn vacuum cleaners to remove loose dirt.
The next important that needs to be kept in mind is that marbles cannot withstand harsh cleaning mediums like heavy detergents and acids. It reacts with acid resulting in scarring and pitting. The stone surfaces should be cleaned with mild liquid detergent, stone soap or with few drops of neutral cleaner. Always use clean mop on the floors and a soft cloth for best results. Don’t use too much soap or cleaner. However, the surface needs to be rinsed thoroughly after washing with the solution and wiped dry with soft cloth. The rinse water while cleaning should be changed frequently.
In the bathrooms or other wet areas, wipe with a squeegee after every use to minimize the soap scum. You can also use ammonia solution and water or non acidic soap scum remover. But remember not to overuse ammonia solution because it may make the stone surface dull. In hot tub, patio or outdoor pool areas, flushing should be done with clean water. For removing moss or algae, use mild bleach solution. However, don’t mix ammonia and bleach because this combination forms a lethal and toxic gas.
For maintenance of the vanity tops, you may need to apply penetrating sealer. You can also use marble wax of good quality or non yellowing automobile paste to reduce water spotting.
Lastly, always apply penetrating sealer on marble tiles in kitchens. After applying the sealer, make it sure that it is safe to use on the surfaces of food preparation.
Marble is the most elegant flooring material used for homes. So, make sure to maintain it keeping these seven points in mind so that the beauty of the house stays unmatched.
