Weekend only business licensing?

My mother owns a coffee shop in Providence, RI That is open monday through friday. We got an offer from a luxury apartment community in Cumberland RI, to set up a small coffee cart in their main building on Saturdays and Sundays only for about 4-5 hours each day. I am having trouble finding information for my mother about licensing and permits and if there are special weekend only business permits. at her permanant location we do all of the baking and cooking. When we go to the coffee cart location, we will be bringing all of the baked goods with us. We are doing this on a trial basis to see if residents of the community would even be interested in using our services, so it seems foolish to apply for full licensing and permits if it’s not going to work out. Diane A has some good suggestions! If the health department has a problem with bringing your baked goods with you, ask if you could seal them at the location they were made at and what sort of certification you would need for that. The state licensing board or city/county may want you to get a manufacturing license for that so you will want to check with them as well (been there, done that!).

If it was me doing it, I would try it out for a weekend and see how it works. Take a copy of your business license and play dumb saying that you thought that would cover you there. I wouldn’t try that for more than 1 weekend though! If it looks like the cart would work, then put some time into doing it the right way with the health department and business licensing department(s). Make sure you have a contract with the apartment manager before setting up.

I am a daredevil that takes risks; just so you are warned! I realize that my suggestion is not the “correct” way to do business but why spend the extra money on a possible one time use license?
