Job In Coffee Shop

Start a Coffee Shop – a growing business niche
Many people have had the idea to start a coffee shop as they want to get out of the rat race and have the security of their own business, rather than rely on other people to give them a job in such uncertain times.
The good news if you want to start a coffee shop is that it’s a market holding up very well in the recession. People still enjoy their small luxuries – in fact they enjoy them more, when big spending plans are out of the question. A cup of steaming, fresh, coffee in the morning falls slap bang into that category.
The primary factor in getting your own coffee house going is location. Should you choose to start a coffee shop it will mainly stand or fall by where you set up. Any potential location needs research, but that does not have to be expensive. Head into your town center, or shopping mall and do some people watching. Where do they naturally stop to look at a statue or spectacular building? When they go into work in the morning, what way does the traffic mainly flow? With a little thought, you will soon find yourself walking round instinctively eyeing up possible locations for your business.
Of course you will need other things to start a coffee shop. Make sure you check out planning rules and regulations. In my experience, most of the authorities are very helpful. They want new businesses and successful ones where they are. Some might even offer you advice on good people to consult about your business start up.
By using your own eyes and thinking ahead, you really can get a profitable business going at costs that are far from eye watering.
Head to Coffee Shop News to learn the secrets to slashing coffee shop start up costs and starting a new business. It’ll get you on the way to owning a coffee shop faster than you imagined.

Counter Culture: The American Coffee Shop Waitress $19.95 Career waitresses do more than just serve food. They are part psychiatrist, part grandmother, part friend, and they serve every walk of American life: from the retired and the widowed, to the wounded and the lonely, and from the working class to the wealthy. The classic diner waitress is an icon of American culture. . . . This book takes a moment to honor and recognize waitresses’ contribution to our communities. Doing this project has helped me to redefine my perspective on life, work, and happiness. It has made me reevaluate the myth of the American dream that says you need to have an ‘important’ job to be happy.-from Counter CultureIn large cities and small towns across the country, the best diners and coffee shops are more than just restaurants: they are neighborhood institutions that bring together communities. From the Gold ‘N Silver Inn in Reno, Nevada to the U.S.A. Country Diner in Windsor, New Jersey, these special places are not defined by their menus or décor, but by the waitresses who have establish bonds with their customers and their communities over years-and sometimes decades-of service. Counter Culture is a window into the lives of career waitresses who have worked in diners and coffee shops for up to sixty years. Since 2001, Candacy A. Taylor (a former waitress herself) has traveled more than 26,000 miles throughout the United States collecting stories of these “lifers,” as many waitresses aged fifty or over playfully call themselves. She interviewed fifty-seven waitresses in thirty-eight towns and cities. Their compelling stories are complemented and enhanced by Taylor’s striking color photographs of the waitresses at work.Taylor expected that the waitresses she’d meet would feel overworked and underappreciated, but was surprised and delighted to find that the opposite was true. The proud, capable waitresses Taylor interviewed loved their jobs and, even if given the opportunity, “wouldn’t do anything else.” Nearly all the |

The People I Know $20 The People I Know is a collection of nine stories, told by characters who hover at the edge of life. Whether it’s Lorne, perched on a sofa as a wedding party swirls around him, or the elderly Mrs. R of “Morning at the Beach,” imagining a career in crime as she sits on the front porch of a Miami hotel, these are people oddly accustomed to the sidelines of their worlds.Nancy Zafris’s characters do not so much hurdle their barriers as contemplate them with varying degrees of humor, regret, and fanciful expectation. Gazing out of his window at a horizon of crushed cars, Bonner Junior fantasizes about working at an I.M. Pei office building instead of at John Bonner and Son Metal Shredders; at the same time, his job allows him to amuse his friends with grisly, embellished stories of human shreddings and wild dogs. In “Meeting in Tokyo,” a businessman examines his own attraction and aversion to conformity after taking a young secretary to a “love hotel.” For Wendy, born with a strong nose and a Baltic name, cosmetic surgery has brought acceptance but also boredom. Suffering little “deaths of feeling” with each success, she flirts with disaster, with anything that will make her heartbeat “go up to 75 or more.” Grace, in “Grace’s Reply,” prefers to deal with reality through illusion; she blames her son’s death on a Navy intelligence operation and sends Pampers to an imaginary grandson.Ranging from the kiddie bleachers of television’s “Uncle Sylvester Show” to the upholstered seats of a Tokyo coffee shop, from a Navy recruitment office to a meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous, these stories enliven the common places of our world. Sad, yet rarely defeated, Nancy Zafris’s characters toe the line and sometimes manage to cross it. |

The Secret Lives of Dresses $9.99 Dora has always taken the path of least resistance. She went to the college that offered her a scholarship, is majoring in “vagueness studies,” and wears whatever shows the least dirt. She falls into a job at the college coffee shop, and a crush on her flirty boss, Gary. Just when she’s about to test Gary’s feelings, Mimi, the grandmother who raised her, suffers a stroke. Dora rushes back home to Forsyth, NC, and finds herself running her grandmother’s vintage clothing store. The store has always been a fixture in Dora’s life; though she grew up more of a jeans-and-sweatshirt kind of girl, before she even knew how to write, Mimi taught her that a vintage 1920s dress could lift a woman’s spirit. While working there, Dora befriends Mimi’s adorable contractor, Conrad. Is he after Dora, or is working from a different blueprint? And why did Mimi start writing down—and giving away—stories of the dresses in her shop? When Mimi dies, Dora can’t get out of town fast enough and cedes control of the store to her money-hungry aunt who wants to turn it into a t-shirt shop for tourists. But ultimately, she returns to Forsyth, willing to battle whatever may stand in the way of her staying there. Dora can trade her boring clothes for vintage glamour, but can she trade her boring life for one she actually wants? |

You Have No Rights: Stories of America in an Age of Repression $16.95 Chilling true stories of ordinary Americans whose everyday liberties have been violated since September 11.”I’m very liberal and sometimes my friends say I’m giving them some kind of paranoid, nutty stuff, and I agree, but then the FBI show up.”—Marc Schultz, reported to the FBI for reading an article called “Weapons of Mass Stupidity: Fox News hits a new lowest common denominator” while he stood in line at a coffee shopIn West Virginia, Renee Jensen put up a yard sign saying “Mr. Bush: You’re Fired.” She’s questioned by the Secret Service. In Alabama, Lynne Gobbell put a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker on her car. She’s fired from her job. In Vermont, Tom Treece had his high school students write essays and make posters either defending or criticizing the Iraq War. After midnight, the police entered his classroom and took photos of the student artwork. The heated debates about the Patriot Act, about extensive registration and arrest programs for immigrants, and about domestic spying by the FBI, Pentagon, and National Security Agency have all been front-page news. But less understood are the effects of ramped-up national security policies on ordinary people across the country. In this hard-to-put-down book, Matthew Rothschild, editor of The Progressive magazine, shows that post-9/11 America has entered a repressive age. Through dozens of engrossing and disturbing individual stories, You Have No Rights makes clear that America is now a country that is both less safe and less free. From You Have No Rights: Near Albany, New York, Stephen Downs went to a mall with his son Roger, and the two of them boughtshirts in a T-shirt shop. Downs put his shirt on, went to eat in the food court—and was arrested. The T-shirt’s message? “Peace on Earth.” |
